The Roumanian authorities do not contemplate any deportation of unnaturalized Jews belonging to the class of “Staatenlose” or foreigners living in Roumania, was the assurance given by the head of the Roumanian Legation here to Lucien Wolf, secretary of the Joint Foreign Committee of the Board of Jewish Deputies and Anglo-Jewish Association.
Mr. Wolf drew the attention of the Legation to the recently promulgated ordinance for an aliens control in Roumania which gave the local authorities discretion to determine the procedure in each case. It was feared by a large number of unnaturalized Roumanian Jews that they would be the first victims of the ordinance. The Legation here assured Mr. Wolf that no secret instructions were given to the authorities in this respect. The new ordinance merely lays stress on the customary notification and the annual revision of permits for sojourn.
