At a meeting held on Monday evening, the Common Council of the City of Stamford which consists of a Mayor and nine Councilmen, none of whom are Jews, adopted a resolution of protest against the persecution of the Jews in Roumania. The resolution read:
“Whereas, the Roumanian Government has been instigating and permitting outrages upon the Jewish people of her land, denying to them justice and their due rights under her fundamental law and in violation of the obligations which she assumed under the Treaty of 1919, guaranteeing the full enjoyment of civil, political, linguistic and religious liberty to all her inhabitants:
“He It Hereby Resolved:
“That we utter a solemn protest against the persecution of the Jewish people and other religious minorities in Roumania, and we call upon the Roumanian Government to live up to the obligations which she assumed under the Treaty of 1919, guaranteeing the full enjoyment of civil, political, linguistic and religious liberty to all of her inhabitants.”
The action of the City Council followed a protest meeting held in Stamford on Sunday at the Hebrew Institute at which Abraham Wolsey. Morris Perlman and Rabbi Leon J Liebreich ?poke. Morris Spelke presided.
