At its closing session here last week the state legislature rejected a bill that would allow the polls to stay open later than usual on primary day, Sept. 11, which is also the second day of Rosh Hashonah. The passage of the measure would have made it possible for Jews to east their votes after sundown.
Prior to taking up the bill, the legislature received a special message from Governor William A. Comstock recommending that the bill be passed. The governor acted at the request of the Detroit Jewish Chronicle.
