Attaman Babenko, and his assistant, Demchenko, both noted for their pogromist activities under Petlura, are now members of the Communist party holding responsible posts as Commissars in the town of Trastianez, district of Podol. This discovery was made when the former pogrom leaders endeavored to utilize their offices to persecute the Jews. Under the pretext that all Jews are Trotskyists and must therefore be sent out of the country to Palestine, they inaugurated a campaign of persecution.
An investigation commission fixed direct responsibility on Babenko and Demchenko for a number of pogroms under Petlura.
