The prediction that Australia and New Zealand will soon follow the example of Canada and grant de facto recognition to Israel was made here today in well-informed quarters.
An official government spokesman today stated that it was “highly improbable” that Canadian diplomatic representatives will be sent to Israel at the present time. However, he emphasized that the de facto recognition of Israel announced by Canada last Friday will facilitate trade and postal relations between the two countries.
