ONLY IMMIGRANTS COMING HERE TO FILL JOBS CERTIFIED BY PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS WILL BE ADMITTED TO AUSTRALIA UNDER NEW IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS. PREVIOUSLY, SO FAR AS JEWISH IMMIGRANTS ARE CONCERNED, A GUARANTEE BY THE JEWISH COMMUNITY THAT THE IMMIGRANT WOULD NOT BECOME A STATE CHARGE WAS CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE.
PRIME MINISTER JOSEPH A. LYONS, IN A MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF THE JEWISH NEW YEAR, SAYS: “I AM GLAD OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONVEY GOOD WISHES. THE JEWISH PEOPLE ARE IN NUMBER BUT A SMALL PART OF THE POPULATION OF AUSTRALIA BUT THEIR LEADERS SET A HIGH STANDARD OF CITIZENSHIP WHICH IS FOLLOWED BY THE JEWISH COMMUNITY GENERALLY.”
