Twelve thousand DP’s, including 5,000 from the British zone, will be permitted to enter Australia, Arthur A. Calwell, Australian Immigration Minister, announced today.
Preference will be extended to heavy workers, notably those from the Baltic countries, Calwell said. Immigrants will be assigned to specific jobs and must re(##) for a minimum of two years, unless released before, after which satisfactory immigrants will be allowed to transfer to a job of their own choosing and become Australian citizens after five years, he added.
