Moshe Sharett, former Premier of Israel, will be called on publicly to settle an argument between the Australian Laborites and the Conservatives when he arrives here on a visit early next month.
Richard G. Casey, Australia’s Minister for External Affairs, told the House of Representatives that, when Mr. Sharett arrives Mr. Casey will invite him to make a public comment on a Labor Party statement that the Arab-Israel conflict had economic origins, Mr. Casey, who noted that he had “intimate dealings” with Mr. Sharett when he visited Palestine, vouched for Mr. Sharett’s status as an expert, declaring: “If any man knows the problem, it is he.”
The question was raised during a debate on Australian foreign policy when the Labor leader, Dr. Herbert V. Evatt, called the Arab-Israel conflict basically an economic one not a question of racial antagonism.
