Amplifying on the Australian Government’s decision to admit 15,000 refugees to this country in the next three years. interior minister John McEwen said today that the government was willing to extend financial assistance to local organizations responsible for absorbing the immigrants. Mc. McEwen said the government expected the organizations to contact European relief bodies on the selection of the immigrants, which had hitherto been left to the British consulates concerned.

A conference of religious, social and political leaders, to be held monday under the chairmanship of the lord mayor of Melbourne, will discuss the setting up of a non-sectarian body responsible for the entire refugee problem. This morning’s newspapers give prominent display to a statement by Col. Harold Cohen, member of the executive council of the Victoria Legislative Assembly, in which he said: “Maybe the son of a refugee will turn out to be another Monash (Sir John Monash, World War hero) or an Isaacs (Sir Isaac Isaacs, former Governor-General of Australia).”
