Australian Minister of Immigration Harold Holt today promised an investigation of a report that Max Oertel, a founder and former member of the Victorian Nazi Party has reentered Australia under an immigration permit.
Certel, who left Australia for Germany in 1939, has rejoined his family, which was interned during the war, in Melbourne. Although he admits membership in the Nazi Party, Oertel insists that he never founded the Victorian chapter. He also says that he did not flee Australia for Germany in 1939, but went there only to purchase machinery for a hosiery firm by which he was employed at the time.
