The Jewish community of Australia was praised for its immigrant welfare work by Maloney, labor member of Parliament from Melbourne, in voicing the complaint in Parliament that the Government does not pay sufficient attention to the needs of British immigrants.

“I pay respect to the Jewish people of Australia for caring for their unemployed better than any other denomination. The Jewish citizens have done splendid work for their immigrants, while it is the Government’s policy to get immigrants here and then let them fend for themselves,” he declared.
