Australian Prime Minister Robert G. Menzies called today for United Nations sponsorship of urgent high level discussions aimed at ending the tension in the Middle East.
Speaking at a conference of the Liberal Party’s Federal Council, the Prime Minister insisted that at the head of the area’s needs was a final, guaranteed settlement of the Arab-Israel borders. Next in priority, Mr. Menzies listed: settlement of the Arab refugee problem, provision of economic aid without strings to the nations of the region, and encouragement of peaceful trade.
