Aiming to prevent Jewish lawyers from sitting on the Executive of the Bar Association, the Austrian government today decreed that members of the Executive are to be nominated and not elected.

Abolition of the elections, an action which is contrary to the democratic principles of the Bar Association, will make it impossible for Jewish lawyers to play any role in the administration of the association. Despite the fact that the Jews form a majority in the Bar Association of Vienna, they were not consulted by the government about the change of procedure in the election to the Executive.

Two separate bar associations—one for “Aryans” and the other for “non-Aryans”—will be formed by the government, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned here today from reliable sources. The introduction of a numerus clausus for Jews in the legal profession is also expected, according to information from the same source.

Memorial services for Jewish heroes who fell in the World War were held today at the Jewish cemetery in Graz, where forty-nine graves of Jewish soldiers killed during the war are located. Military honors were paid to the fallen heroes. Dr. Goerbach, leader of the Vaterland Front Organization in Styria, delivered the eulogy.
