The golden insignia of honor of the Austrian Republic was conferred upon Gustav Lindenthal. American Jewish engineer, builder of many American bridges, by Michael Hainisch, President of the Republic.
Mr. Lindenthal was born in Brunn. 76 years ago and went to America in 1874 as engineer of the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, remaining there since. He is President in New York of the American Society, whose Vienna branch held a reception last night to honor him and 150 members of the American Interstate Medical Society now visiting clinics here. President Hainisch was among the guests.
The Vienna Technical School, where he studied, awarded him an honorary doctor’s degree in a ceremony made picturesque by the appearance of all the students in the ancient gala costumes of the country.
Dr. Adolph Stern, of New York, was elected President of the American Psychiatric Assn., succeeding Dr. Trigant Burrow of Baltimore.
The Educational Committee presented to the Executive Board a resolution calling for a medical degree from a first-class medical school for practitioners of psycho-analysis for curative purposes and also for special training in neurology and psychiatry. The resolution recognizes the need for the application of psycho-analytical principles in criminology, social service and the theological professions, and advocates the establishment of courses of instruction for persons engaged in those fields.
Of the 280 students who were graduated from the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy, 151 are Jewish.
