Austria is holding some $10 billion in assets that belonged to Jews killed in the Holocaust, according to the secretary-general of the World Jewish Congress. Israel Singer cited a declassified U.S. document showing that the Austrian government took possession of the money in 1953. WJC officials say they plan to use the document to press Austria to pay compensation.
