Austria Spurs Jews to Deny Disabilities

Austrian government officials have renewed their pressure on non-Catholic leaders in Austria, particularly the Jews, to cable abroad immediately denying that the Jews of Austria have been harmed or that they are suffering from any acts of the regime headed by Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg.

Following revelations in European and American newspapers regarding the anti-Semitic campaign now being waged by the Austrian government and the economic discrimination against the Jews, officials denied the truth of the stories and asked leading Jewish citizens to issue denials for the benefit of the foreign press.

Members of the Austrian government also threatened to take severe measures against all citizens guilty “of issuing statements to foreign newspapers.” Reprisals also were threatened against foreign newspapermen permanently stationed in ###
