The disapproval of the Allied Control Commission has resulted in the dropping of one prominent anti-Semite from the cabinet of the new Austrian government, but another, who is even more prominent, remains.
Premier Leopold Figl announced that Julius Raab, Minister of Reconstruction, has been removed from the cabinet, although he remains a member of Parliament. However, Leopold Kunschak, whom Figl named to the key post of president of the National Assembly, will retain that position. On Dec. 8, Figl defended the appointment of Kunschak, stating that he was “not anti-Semitic on racial grounds, but on economic grounds.”
