The Austrian Government will resume reparations talks with Jewish world organization at the earliest possible moment, its new Chancellor. Julius Raab, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today. Mr. Raab was sworn in today as head of the new People’s Party and Socialist coalition government.
The preceding government–a similar coalition headed by Dr. Leopold Figibad agreed to negotiate Jewish restitution claims despite sharp differences on the subject within the cabinet, but a series of delays followed by a government crisis and Parliamentary elections blocked any action.
Mr. Raab told the JTA that he felt bound by the agreement of the former government to enter into negotiations with the Jewish groups.
