A delegation representing Austrian Jewish victims of Nazism will meet Chancellor Josef Klaus of Austria here on April 9 to discuss negotiations for compensation. It was announced at a meeting here of the American Council for Equal Compensation of Nazis Victims from Austria.
Rep. James H. Scheuer of New York told the meeting that Austria had consistently refused to recognize its full moral and legal obligations to make restitution, though 50 percent of all Nazi war criminals were Austrians. He urged the Austrian Government to right the wrongs inflicted on Nazi victims and expressed hope that President Johnson would raise the issue with Dr. Klaus when they meet in Washington. Austria has so far paid about $200 million in restitution under its War Victims Law, compared with more than $9 billion West Germany has paid to Jewish victims, their families and the Stale of Israel.
