A state of siege has been proclaimed all over Austria until the completion of the Government’s measures against the Nazi party as a result of recurring outbreaks climaxed yesterday in widespread bomb attacks on the Jews in Vienna, which resulted in at least one death, according to the Heimwehr (Austrian national Fascist) press.
The cabinet and police officials met again today to consider what steps should be taken to maintain peace. A government statement last night assured that sufficient steps would be taken to terminate the Nazi terror. Nazi papers, however, assert that any steps to suppress the Nazi party would have to wait until after a Parliamentary election.
The ministerial council this afternoon advised the dissolution of the Nazi party and possibly, martial law over the entire country. Meanwhile, police protection of Jewish shops and homes was fortified.
Nazi attacks against the Jews were carried out in Linz, Graz, and Innsbruck. The Nazi press charges Communists with inciting these attacks in order to cause the prohibition of the Nazi party.
