The Jewish heroes who fell in the Warsaw Ghetto Bevolt against the Nazis in 1943 were praised here last night by Austrian Vice-Chancellor Adolf Schaerf for having fought to keep aloft the torch of freedom for the entire world. He spoke at a mass meeting of the Vienna Jewish Community called to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the uprising in the ghetto.
Jewish spokesmen, including Dr. Joseph Maurer and Ernst Feldsberg, president and vice-president, respectively, of the Community, declared that the gratitude of all democratic countries, including Austria, for the deeds of the Jewish heroes could best be expressed by aiding the surviving victims of the Nazis. Leading members of the national and municipal governments attended the meeting.
