The fate of Austrian Jews depends on a plebiscite next Sunday which Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg dramatically announced tonight in a speech to fatherland Front leaders and workers’ and peasants’ representatives at Innsbruck.
All citizens over 24 years of age will be asked to vote on whether they approve or disapprove of the present form of government and the freedom and independence of the State.
In making the announcement, Dr. Schuschnigg again emphasized his program of equality for all professing the cause of the nation and fatherland. A 70-per cent affirmative vote is expected in the poll.
