Anti-Jewish propaganda has been intensified in Luxemburg since Germany’s annexation of Austria. Anti-Jewish leaflets are distributed by German Nazis throughout the Duchy, containing the threat that if the Jews are not expelled from Luxemburg, Chancellor Hitler will be asked to do it for the Luxemburg Government.
Despite a pledge recently obtained by the Foreign Minister that Belgium would defend Luxemburg in case of attack, the general feeling here is tense. Fifty or sixty Jewish families, most of them from Germany, are preparing to emigrate overseas.
Nearly all Jewish shops are painted with swastikas during the night. The Liberal Escher Tagslatt published an attack on anti-Jewish propaganda, especially condemning Nazi ruffians who paint swastikas on Jewish shops.
