Rolf Hochhuth, the German author of the controversial play, “The Deputy,” which attacks Pope Pius XII for failure to denounce the mass killing of the Jews by the Nazi, has been refused permission to continue residing in Basel. He has appealed to the Basel Cantonal Government against this decision. Last year the Canton of Zug refused Mr. Hochhuth permission to live there on the grounds that his presence might disturb the peace.
