Several cars of matzoth arrived in Moscow and Leningrad from Riga.

In Moscow the customs officials have refused to permit the distribution of the matzoth, demanding that the full luxury tax be paid, instead of the 50 kopeks per kilogram agreed upon between the Soviet authorities and the committee abroad which is taking care of providing the matzoth for Russian Jewish families.

Negotiations are now under way between the Moscow Kehillah leaders for the release of the matzoth.

The protest against the importation of matzoth into Soviet Russia is being continued by the Communist Yiddish daily “Emes,” which declares that while matzoth arrive several days after the order, things drag when officials order tractors abroad.

A Jewish cooperative in Moscow is baking matzoth for which it is charging 34 roubles per pud. The “Emes” demands that this practice be suppressed.
