Avraham Shapira, a leading politician in Israel’s fervently Orthodox community, died of complications from diabetes Monday at the age of 79. Shapira became a prominent figure in the fervently Orthodox Agudat Yisrael Party and in 1981 was elected to the Knesset, where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee.
