The American Zionist Federation has set the evening of Wednesday, April 28, for a celebration in Carnegie Hall of Israel’s 23rd anniversary. It expects a minimum of 17 parades in communities across the country, and is asking local AZF chapters to urge their Mayors and Governors to issue proclamations designating April 29 as Israel Independence Day or the week of April 25 as Israel Independence Week. (Because the anniversary this year falls on a Friday–April 30, the fifth of Iyar–it will be celebrated on Thursday, April 29. Such a shift in dates is not unusual; in recent years it has occurred in 1965 and 1968.)
