B. C. Vladeck, general manager of the Jewish Daily Forward, yesterday offered his resignation to the American Jewish Committee. In a letter he explained that his action was motivated by a clause in the constitution of the recently formed Jewish Labor Committee on Labor Affairs, the executive of which he heads forbidding those affiliated with it to retain their connections with other groups dealing with general Jewish affairs.
At the Forward office yesterday Mr. Vladeck explained that he is parting with the American Jewish Committee in a friendly manner, and expressed his belief that both the committee and American Jewish Congress are doing useful work as well as the new labor committee. He said that it was his sentiment that each group should represent those actually behind it, and all of them should get together whenever united action was required.
Although he asked for immediate acceptance of his resignation. it will not be acted upon for about two weeks, said Harry H. Schneiderman, assistant secretary of the American Jewish Committee where the receipt of Mr. Vladeck’s letter was acknowledged to the Jewish Daily Bulletin. Mr. Schneiderman considered the incident “apurely administrative matter.”
Mr. Vladeck Stated at his office that plans were in the offing for extending the work of the labor committee out of town, and claimed that it represents 350,000 Jewish workers here.
