revolution of 1917, and in 1918 he organized the statistical and economic division of the Jewish commissariat of the Soviet government.
In this post he was instrumental in formulating the policy of interesting the Jewish masses of the Soviet Union in working on the land in collective colonies.
In 1920 he left his post and proceeded to Poland and later to Palestine, where he became the statistical expert for the Palestine workers’ organization. However, because of his work in the Soviet Union, Mr. Rubstein was violently assailed in the Zionist press.
He finally returned to the Soviet Union where he was appointed head of the Jewish State Museum, a post he retained until his death.
