Bail of $50,000 was set today for Andrija Artukovic, former Minister of Justice in the Nazi puppet state of Croatia, when hearings on his petition for a writ of habeas corpus were postponed in Federal Court until January.
The Yugoslav Government is seeking Artukovic’s extradition to face murder charges in Croatia. The court ordered postponement of the habeas corpus hearings pending submission and study of the United States-Yugoslav extradition treaties under which the Yugoslav demand for Artukovic’s extradition was filed.
Deportation proceedings against Artukovic were indefinitely postponed last week pending the outcome of the extradition action.
