Count Baillet-Latour’s stand as president of the International Olympic Committee in favor of holding the Olympic Games in Germany as scheduled is challenged in a letter published today in De Telegraaf over the signatures of A. Ascher, president, and Dr. D. Cohen, secretary, of the Committee for Special Jewish Interests.
The letter asks whether Count Baillet-Latour does not think that the principle of equality and the acknowledgement of human rights, which is the essence of the Olympics Idea, has not been outraged by a country where Jews no longer enjoy civil rights and are consigned to defamation and destruction.
The committee of which Mr. Ascher is the head has just published a booklet, “Is Germany the Country for the Olympic Games?” in which it is charged that Germany is scorning Olympic ideals.
