Dr. Mordecai Kaplan, noted Jewish philosopher and educational authority, has resigned as dean of the Teachers Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary, Dr. Louis Finkelstein, president of the Seminary, announced. Rabbi Moshe Davis, registrar of the Seminary’s rabbinical school and assistant dean of the Institute, has been named to succeed Dr. Kaplan.
Dr. Kaplan has been dean of the Institute since its establishment 37 years ago. He has been connected with the Seminary since 1902. Dr. Kaplan recently started a drive for the establishment of a University of Judaism and will devote much of his time toward the development of such a school. He will continue as professor of Homiletics at the Seminary’s rabbinical school.
