The Ministry of Propaganda today made public an announcement prohibiting the showing of moving pictures produced in Germany before the Nazis came into power, if non-Aryan actors appear in these films.
The question whether the Jewish religion in Germany will be protected came up for discussion today when a report of the Penal Code Committee, established by the German government, was made public here by the Minister of Justice.
The report proposes imprisonment for insulting recognized religious communities; also for public defamation of religious teachings and customs. It emphasizes, however, that “it has not yet been decided who is to enjoy this protection.”
Should Jewish religion also be protected under the proposed report of the Penal Code Committee, then the desecration of Jewish cemeteries will in future be punishable as a criminal offense.
Jewish community leaders were doubtful today as to whether the protection of Jewish religion is also meant in the report, since the official release indicates that there will be special categories to which this protection may not be afforded.
