The anti-Semitic weekly “Der Hammer” deals in its latest issue with the strange friendliness of a section of the Evangelist clergy in Germany towards the Jews, and comes to the conclusion that a large number of priests are actually baptized Jews who like “wolves in sheeps’ clothing” have crept into the Christian fold.
“Der Hammer” publishes a list of baptized Jews occupying high positions in the Prussian Consistory, and among other names mentions Josephson, Simsa (Sonnenburg), Isael (Berlin), and Mendelsohn (Meerfeld).
Among the names of a number of priests of supposedly Jewish origin, the weekly includes Heyka (Posen), Lasson (Berlin), Apfeletadt (Thuringia), Raun (Potsdam) Durchstein (Simelsdorf) Magnus (Letschin), Mehlnose (Berlin) and Arnold (Lichtenrade).
