Bar-Ilan University in Israel, has received a provisional charter from the Board of Regents of the State of New York. The announcement was made today by Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, acting president of the university, at a meeting of the Board of the American Committee for Bar-Iian University which was held here.
The charter confers upon the university the right to award Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees in the arts and sciences, and the Ph. D. degree in Judaic studies. In being granted this charter, Bar-Ilan University now becomes the only American chartered institution of higher learning in Israel, and in the words of Dr. Lookstein, “represents America’s contribution to higher education in Israel.”
