A call for the mobilization of all Jews in Palestine for the general strike to be held tomorrow as a protest against the immigration policy of the Palestine government was issued today over the signatures of the Jewish communities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa, the Vaad Leumi, the Jewish National Council of Palestine, and various business associations.
The strike was decided upon at a meeting of the Assefath Hanvicharim, the elected assembly of Jewish Palestine.
During the hours of the general strike in Wednesday, between noon and seven o’clock in the evening, all stores, retail and wholesale, all restaurants, cafes, offices, and factories, will remain closed. All business will be suspended.
Mass meetings will be held all over Palestine, which will be addressed by representatives of all political parties with the exception of the Agudath Israel. The Agudath, orthodox Jewish group, announced that it was in sympathy with the fight against immigration restriction, but declined to take part in the general strike.
Posters calling Palestinian Jewry to unite and fight the government immigration policy were prominently displayed all over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
