In connection with Barlassina’s recall from the Jerusalem Patriarchete, the Vatican correspondent of the Stampas writes that Barlassina, in accordance with instructions from the Vatican, conducted a strenuous anti-Zioist campaign and consequently fell into serious difficulties, even coming into conflict with Catholic organizations in Palestine. The Catholic press, especially Unita Catholica, states that Barlassina position is difficult because of what they call the “unjust policy” of the High Commissioner, Sir Herbert Samuel. At the time that it was announced that Barlassina would be recalled, it was predicted that a native prelate would be appointed in his stead in accordance with the demands of the native Catholic population in Palestine.
