Barlev Discusses Economic Relations Between Argentina and Israel

Israeli Trade and Industry Minister Haim Barlev, who is in Buenos Aires on an unofficial visit, held talks with Argentine Trade Undersecretary Miguel Revestido and with Industry Undersecretary Alberto Davie and visited meat packing houses. In a press conference, Barlev stated that in 1972 Israel imported from Argentina $15 million in products, mainly meat, while exporting $1 million in manufactured products.

In 1973, Israel will buy from Argentina about $30 million of products and hopes to improve somewhat on the trade imbalance by exporting more. He said there also were plans to establish joint enterprises with Argentina using combined know how. Regarding the European Economic Community, Barlev stated it was Israel’s nearest and most important market.
