Baron Philippe de Rothschild has accepted the chairmanship of the European committee of the “Zimriyah,” the international Hebrew song festival which will be held in Israel next August. Singers from a score of countries are expected to visit Israel to participate in the festival.
Baron de Rothschild said today that he will soon visit England, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the Scandinavian countries and French North Africa to help establish local committees for the song festival. He expressed the belief that “Zimriyah” will accomplish in the realm of music what the Maccabied–the Jewish Olympic Games–had done in the field of sports, strengthening the ties between the youth of Israel and the youth of other countries.
