Barring startling results, Israel has failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup soccer championships. The failure came despite surprisingly good results for Israel in the qualifying round, which included a 2-1 victory over the Faeroe Islands over the weekend. Israel has not qualified for the World Cup, which is held every four years, since 1970.
