Barter with Germans holding property abroad was held out today as a method whereby Jews could liquidate their holdings in this country.
In an article on the subject, the Westdeutscher Beobachter of Cologne, leading Nazi organ in Western Germany, declares that the German Government would raise no objections to such a procedure.
Stating that the Government would even encourage transactions of this nature, the newspaper goes on to say that it is “reliably informed that the Government is ready in such cases not to interpret too strictly the regulations for emigrating non-Aryans and will help them as far as possible.”
The paper urges that Jews who sell out their businesses in the provinces be forbidden to move to the larger German cities. The suggested prohibition is prompted by the fear that the Jews will open new shops in the cities.
The same article quotes a recent decision of the Reichs Association of German Textile Retail Dealers that Jews be not permitted to engage in the retail textile trade because they are “politically unreliable.” It also demands that “Aryans” taking over Jewish enterprises be permitted to display signs informing the public that “This Is An Aryan Firm.”
