He had been accused of having acted as “the devil’s jurist” in writing articles, as a Munich University law professor, justifying the Nazi laws against German Jews. After the charges were published, Bavarian Premier Alfons Coopel ordered an examination of all of his legal writings, Maunz had been president of the Ministers of Education of the German States before becoming the Bavarian Education Minister;
