The British Broadcasting Corp. was reported today to have rejected an Israeli applicant for a television training course in London in which mainly Arab students are enrolled.
According to Itzhak Livni, director of the Israel armed forces broadcasting station who just returned from London, the Israeli applicant was a former member of the Army broadcasting staff. He was turned down on the grounds that inclusion of an Israeli in the course would have jeopardized the spirit of teamwork among the group. Mr. Livni said he protested to BBC officials who told him that if a sufficient number of Israelis wished to study, the BBC might arrange a special TV course for them.
Israel is presently involved in a controversy with the BBC over the latter’s alleged pro-Arab bias in reporting news from the Middle East.
