Aubrey Eban, Israeli representative to the United Nations, today refuted a charge by the Arab Office here that the records of the Security Council did not bear out the Israeli contention that it had submitted to the Council documentary evidence of acceptance of the mediator’s ruling on communications in the Negev.
In a letter in this morning’s Times Eban stated that a letter from the Israeli Foreign Office had been sent to the acting mediator’s representative on Sept. 30 and that the letter has since been reproduced in the Security Council’s record of its 307th meeting. He added that on Oct. 26 acting mediator Dr. Ralph Bunche agreed that any misunderstanding concerning Israel’s attitude in this matter had been eliminated.
The current issue of the Spectator calls for the Arabs to be given permission to purchase arms since “the Jews are getting them anyway.” The editorial stresses that the Egyptian, Lebanese and Syrian armies have lost all military importance and speculates on the concessions which the Arab League states will make to King Abdullah of Transjordan, including the dropping of support far the Gaza Government, which the Spectator refers to as “that impotent cabal.”
