Bedouins evicted from their land in a cordoned-off region between the southern Gaza Strip and northern Sinai cannot be permitted to return for security reasons, the Cabinet was told Sunday in a report submitted by Chief of Staff Gen. David Elazar. The report represented the recommendations of a committee appointed by Elazar to work out compensation for their lands. The evicted families will be given the choice of resettlement with the assistance of the military government or financial compensation for their lands. Resettlement could be in housing projects near existing settlements or in units where small scale farms can be worked as the Bedouins did on their former lands.
