Premier Menachem Begin rejected today any increase in the price of basic consumption products. “Inflation is a disease that can be cured,” he said.
Begin spoke at a closed session of the Likud Knesset faction, in which he urged members to speak openly on their questions of government policy. Members did not hold back criticism, and some warned that unless the government changed its economic and social policies, Likud would lose the next elections.
Begin said the hikes of basic consumer products should be stopped, because they aggravated the public. But other than that, he strongly defended his government’s policy.
