Premier Menachem Begin arrived today at the White House a few minutes before his 11 a.m. appointment with President Reagan, his limousine flying both the American and Israeli flags. The usual honor guards from the United States Armed Forces lined the drive way at the northwest entrance of the White House.
The Israeli Premier was accompanied by Mashe Arens, Israel’s Ambassador to Washington, and Yehudo Blum, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations. Secretary of State Alexander Haig met Begin outside and escorted him into the Oval Office.
At a brief photo session inside the Oval Office, the mood appeared very serious. Begin asked the President about his recent European trip and Reagan replied that it had gone very well. After the opening session the two leaders had a working lunch. (See story page 3.)
The Premier has a busy agenda while in Washington. He will meet with the House Foreign Affairs Committee in closed session on Capital Hill this afternoon. He will talk with members of the House tonight at his hotel, and late this evening, he will meet with members of the Senate.
Tomorrow morning, Begin is scheduled to meet with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also in closed session on Capitol Hill. Begin is also scheduled to meet with Haig tomorrow.
