Premier Menachem Begin added his voice to the growing demands for the death penalty for terrorists in the aftermath of Sunday’s outrage at Nahariya. He told the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee today that he supports capital punishment for terrorists in cases of ” extreme, cruel behavior” and said he would ask the government to propose such legislation when the Cabinet convenes Sunday. Deputy Premier Yigael Yadin was also reported today to support the death penalty, not only for terrorist acts but for any aggression Involving extreme violence.
Begin attended the funeral services at Tivon yesterday for three of the Nahariya victims — Danny Aran, 28, and his daughters Einat, 4, and Yael, 2.. Quoting Israel’s national poet, Chaim Nachman Bialik who once wrote that” Saton has not yet invented the revenge for the blood of a child, ” Begin declared what whoever raises a hand against a Jewish child in Israel will suffer only one punishment.” The one who Kills a Jewish child shall pay with his life,” he said.
