Israel’s national water supply company, Mekoroth, started work today on two long-planned water pipelines that will bring the waters of the Jordan and the Yarkon Rivers to the parched lands of the Negev.
One of the lines, using pipes 108 inches in diameter, will carry the Jordan waters. The section of the line carrying the Yarkon waters will use pipes of 70-inch diameter.
Huge trucks started today carting the pipe sections, encased in reinforced concrete, from the factory at Yuval Gad to the route along which the pipelines will be laid.
