Menachem Beigin, leader of the Herut wing of Likud, loft for the United States today. He said he would make no secret of his and Likud’s position that the American technicians are not needed in Sinai and in fact the situation would be better without their presence, Beigin acknowledged that it was up to Congress to discuss and decide the matter. But, he added, if asked his opinion in the U.S. “it is my duty to express our views.”

Beigin also contended that the latest developments in the Middle East have borne out Likud’s warning that the Israeli pull-back in Sinai is not a step toward peace but an invitation for more pressure on Israel to pull back from the Golan Heights. He said that Secretary of State Henry A, Kissinger has begun the pressure play once again and it had to be made clear to the Americans that the majority of Israel is against any withdrawal from the Golan or the removal of any of the present settlements from that region.
